Convergences | New European Bauhaus Festival

The 2nd edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival will take place in Coimbra in the form of a Satellite Event, which will take place at the Itecons facilities, on the morning of April 13th. The event celebrates the journey made by this creative and interdisciplinary initiative since its launch, in September 2021, by the President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen.

As happened in 2022, when several entities and collectives came together around Rua Adelino Veiga, on a day of activities called “Rua Zero”, the Festival of the New European Bauhaus returns, this year, to be held in Coimbra , this time by the hand of an Organizing Committee that unites four official partner entities of the New European Bauhaus - CIM-RC, Itecons, Jazz ao Centro Clube and the University of Coimbra - to which the Associação Cultural Há Low.

Over the last two and a half years, the New European Bauhaus has been adding a cultural and creative dimension to the European Green Deal, combining the values of aesthetics, sustainability and inclusion into concrete, locally based experiences. The New European Bauhaus is growing on fertile ground, in which buildings, public spaces, businesses and social practices, cultural activities and educational programs are beacons of initiative and inspire new ideas.

Starting from the initial appeal of the President of the European Commission, for truly broad participation in the collective imagination and construction of a sustainable, inclusive future that is beautiful for our eyes, minds and souls, the New European Bauhaus has created favorable contexts for people to from different backgrounds and sectors think and work together for the transformation and transition of European society.

In this edition of the Satellite Event of the New European Bauhaus Festival, entitled “Convergences”, Itecons will welcome the perspectives of architects, artists, designers, engineers, social and solidarity economy professionals and citizens from different backgrounds on the profound transformations necessary for regeneration positively towards a more harmonious relationship with nature, as well as to promote accessible aesthetic experiences and combat structural injustices.

The central moment of the initiative will be the conversation that will bring together more than a dozen entities, collectives and citizens who have been designing projects supported or recognized by the New European Bauhaus. The discussion circle will be led by Tânia Covas, current Secretary of the General Council of the University of Coimbra, whose mission will be to find points of convergence between participants from different areas, exploring the appreciation of multidisciplinarity that is at the basis of New European Bauhaus (NEB).

The event will take place in Portuguese language only.
